KYOCERA is recognized as a leading manufacturer of cermets. KYOCERA cermets combine toughness with superior wear resistance, while also offering extended tool life and excellent surface finishes. Typical materials used in KYOCERA cermets include titanium carbide (TiC), titanium nitride (TiN), titanium carbonitride (TiCN), niobium carbide (NbC), alumina (Al2O3), nickel (Ni), tungsten carbide (WC), and cobalt (Co). The inserts can be categorized as follows:
- Uncoated: Ceramic inserts or cutters with metal blends, without post-treatment.
- Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN): A high-hardness synthetic material similar to diamond.
- Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD): A synthetic material sintered at high pressures and temperatures.
- PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coatings: Ceramic inserts or cutters with gas or plasma coatings deposited via physical condensation at the molecular level.
CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) coatings: Ceramic inserts or cutters with gas or plasma coatings deposited via chemical reactions. - DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating: A carbon coating with a crystalline structure applied over multiple layers of carbide substrates.
